“The most difficult way is not always the best” from The Secret Language of Birthdays by Gary Goldschneider & Joost Elffers
“For Eden’s shoot, we went to the perfect location – the place where her now husband proposed to her on her birthday! It’s a beautiful spot in Northumberland county with gorgeous views. It is the highest viewing point in all of the county and you can certainly see the appeal of the location from the photo. It was a place that I’m sure will always hold a special meaning for both Eden and her husband – and I love that the proposal took place on her birthday. I couldn’t think of anywhere else that I would rather shoot her Birthday Book portrait once I heard the story!” – Jeannette B

An Interview with Eden
Q. What is the best memory you have from a previous birthday?
A. The morning of August 18th, 2014 I woke up (exceptionally early) to a phone call from my boyfriend, telling me to put on a dress he bought me and get ready for a ride to pick me up in front of our house. Little did I know, my dad was my morning chauffeur. He played a mixed recording of a short message from my boyfriend followed by a few of our favourite songs for our drive ahead. Once we got to the surprise location my dad took my arm and walked me up to an absolutely stunning lookout of the highest point of our county where my handsome boyfriend, Jay was waiting. The next moment is my favourite memory by far, the moment Jay got on one knee and asked me to be his forever. The thought, and love he put into this stunning sunrise proposal still brings tears to my eyes. A moment we will never forget.
Q. How about the worst? And why?
A. I am lucky enough to say I honestly don’t recall a “bad” birthday. I did ruin my own surprise party once because I’m way too nosey for my own good, but I still had an incredible day surrounded by my friends and family.
Q. What was the present you’ve received for your birthday that surprised you most?
A. On my 23rd birthday my best friend turned into my fiancé. You can’t ask for a bigger surprise then that, the diamond happened to be a bonus.
Q. Is there a food or dish that you insist on eating on your birthday?
A. Every year: Banana Foster Cheesecake. It’s a must.
Q. What do you believe is the most important aspect of celebrating a birthday?
A. Spend the entire day doing what YOU want! It’s the one day a year you’re allowed to be a little bit selfish. Sleep in, sip champagne with breakfast, and most importantly spend the day with everyone you love, and let them spoil you! Soak in the love and enjoy YOUR day.
Q. Do you have any traditions or thing you always do to celebrate a birthday? What is it?
A. Traditions should be my middle name. There is nothing I love more than my families traditions! In my family on your birthday it’s all about the big family dinner. The birthday girl (or boy) gets to choose their favourite meal and my mom goes ALL out, creating the most delicious meal for my entire family to enjoy. Oh, and singing happy birthday? Watch out, I’m pretty sure the neighbours can hear us when we get going. #glittereverywhere
